Eight hundred and counting

Without my noticing the number, today's Word of the Week became my 800th blog post. I do not consider consistency one of my virtues. I'm not entirely sure what my virtues are, other than patience. Yet, here we are.

If you've ever doubted that each small forward shuffle carries us to places we thought we could only imagine, let me be my own witness.  I do not post every day. There are days, not too many out of 800, when I re-posted something from the archives which go back to 2009 (correction, I started in 2008 - I forget), and I committed to myself a few years into this blog business that I would have a minimum of 10 posts a month. Since that day I believe I only fell short once, but I can't swear to it. Every day I wear a badge from artist Angela Smyth with the motto, "Anything is possible." So it seems. xo

Well done, bravissimo and cheers, Marylinn! Those of us in your reading enclave can hardly remember when we weren't enthralled by your posts--your humor, your doses of fabulous music, your serious journeys into the recesses of the heart with generosity, curiosity, a deep delight in all things human, all things rich with color, roses, lace, vintage buttons, ribbons of every stripe, anything made by hand in another time, and your winsome stories of Gloria and TRM. 800? Yes, it is a great many, a number to wear on a badge, hang on a prayer flag, drape from a towel out of your dormitory window when the Home Team wins. But if you were announcing you'd just reached one thousand or two or five, we would be equally full of happiness for your being--and would nod gladly and say yes, of course, without an iota of surprise. Because the delight you've given us seems to have had no beginning--it's as though we've always known you, your wit, your prose style, your tender and incisive observations; it seems we've always cherished your voice as a beloved, known and knowing friend who shows us who we are, helps us put down the big pointy stick, and allows us to say, yes, oh my, yes, I am a member of her tribe. Thank you for the 800th bulls-eye, Marylinn. And on to the next 800 with panache!

You have done more than most of us bloggers who started in 2009! Good for you to keep on going. And I do believe you have other virtues besides patience. Being a compelling writer is one of them.

Wowie Kazowie!!! I, for whom consistency is also not a virtue, am amazed, encouraged and inspired by you (as has been the case for a very looooong time beyond 2008). You encourage me to find my "project" and begin so that one day I too may join the "800 Club!" Awesome!

Melissa - Here we are, now at 801, on our way to 2,000. Thank you so much. I know I have become more, certainly more myself, because of these writings. Those of us who have met through the blog, those of us I've found IN the blog (Gloria, TRM), I can't imagine who or where I would be today without all of you, all you've added. The prayer flag and the towel are fluttering out the window. Hope the parrots don't fly off with either of them. xoxo

Charlotte - Thank you. One day at a time, isn't it, that gets us where we need to go. I appreciate your addition to the list of possible virtues. xo

Sylvia - We are holding your chair at the 800 (and then some) Club table. Always, always a spot for a bivouacking comrade. Can't wait to see how your project unfolds. Thank you. xo
