Word play strikes again

When the compulsion to clump words into an expressive list waits like a hungry cat for you to wake up, you had best get to jotting.

In the January 31 post, I took Edward Gorey's examples of a "Thoughtful Alphabet" to create my own nonsense. I cannot not help myself, today I present my second offering.

TWO

Another barn dance concludes.
Desiree entombs, flaunts geriatric houseflies
inside jars.
Kestrels loop moonward
nearing optimal propulsion.
Queries reverberate
soundlessly
through underground vaults.
Wallflowers exhale,
yawning.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

It could just be me, but this seems fun. The more quickly you do it, the less (that word again) planning, the better. Shrinks may read deep meaning into these spontaneous erruptions. Oh well. Feel free to play along. xo

Another big concession, decries Eve. Found glaring hopelessly in
jaundiced knowledge, lacking meaningful negotiable opportunities. Perhaps quality relief simmers there underneath, vicariously wanting xenophobic yearnings zapped.

these are both great!

marylinn, after you posted on this before (and after i went to a show of his in Boston), i wrote an erotic one for my short-poem group. is it okay to post here? ( i thought i should ask first; it's my new england, puritanical upbringing...)

Robert - Yay, thanks. I will ponder the "lacking (of) meaningful negotiable opportunities." Surely this is a barometer of your recovery. :-)

Susan - Thanks...nice to have Robert in the lead-off spot.

Certainly, please post your erotic alphabet...very good of you to ask. I look forward to the poem. xo

(i took liberties with the form...but then, why not?)

after seeing a show of edward gorey’s alphabetic etchings…

Ansel, bedridden,
colors his dreams
in erotic fantasies,
a gentling hand inside
her joy keeper.
The lady’s mantle, now opal-pale and
peach-damp, quivers.
Rose-pink, rising… slow to unbutton…
Vanessa wanting,
wanting him to explore
the yes-please zone.

Susan - Don't you imagine Mr. Gorey, especially he of THE CURIOUS SOFA, would be so pleased by this? Taking liberties with the form works for it so well. Excellent. Thank you for letting us read it. What was your group's response?

Splendid, Marylinn - and how can I leave without having another go?!

All birdsong carries delicate elements;
filtered grace, high inklings, joyful kinship,
light moments, numinous oration. Plucky
quetzals' riffs soar, titillate untilled valleys
where xylophones' yellow zooms.

FUN! Thanks ; ) xo

thanks, Marylinn!

oh yeah, i think Gorey definitely enjoyed the sensual possibilities inherent in, well, just about anything.
and, my short-form poet pals loved my "alphagorey"!

Antares brings case derived emphatically from growing haikus in just knowledgeable limericks, mostly nonsense, or perception quantitatively restored, spoken to united variety wordsmiths, xenophilic yielding zirconium.

Marylinn, i love your play. I love your poem. And look at all you've inspired!

Claire - What a beautiful avian alphabet...having a loose structure within which we can make anything gives me just enough form so that I'm not flailing. Thank you for joining in. xo

Susan - I can imagine how well your alphagorey was received...I like what I am learning about short forms. xo

Antares Cryptos - If it yields zirconium, you earn a bonus. Thank you so much for your composition and the "different" rodent. Cheers.
